BIGFOOT EXPRESS FREIGHT (PTY) LIMITED (Registration Number: 2005/006977/07) (“Bigfoot”, “we”, “us”, “our”)
Last updated: 18 October 2026
This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal information when you use our freight services, visit www.bigfootexpress.co.za, or communicate with us, including by WhatsApp. We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”) and other applicable law.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to provide and manage our services:
- Contact details: name, company name, phone and mobile numbers, email address and physical or delivery address.
- Shipment information: waybill and tracking numbers, sender and receiver details, collection and delivery addresses, parcel descriptions, delivery status and proof of delivery (including signatures).
- Account information: information supplied in credit or account applications, billing and payment records.
- Communications: messages you send us and we send you by phone, email or WhatsApp, including your WhatsApp profile name and phone number.
- Website information: information you submit in forms (for example quote, account or job applications) and basic technical information such as browser type and pages visited.
2. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- collect, transport and deliver shipments, and send you updates about them;
- send WhatsApp messages such as collection and delivery notifications, tracking updates, proof of delivery and responses to your queries;
- provide quotes, open and manage accounts, invoice and collect payment;
- respond to enquiries, complaints and claims;
- meet our legal, tax and regulatory obligations; and
- improve our services and website.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use WhatsApp to send marketing messages unless you have agreed to receive them.
3. WhatsApp messaging
We use the WhatsApp Business Platform provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. to send and receive messages. When you message us on WhatsApp, or we message you about a shipment, your phone number, profile name and message content are processed by Meta in accordance with WhatsApp’s own terms and privacy policy. You can stop receiving WhatsApp messages from us at any time by replying STOP or by contacting us (see section 9).
4. Who we share information with
We share personal information only where needed to deliver our services or where the law requires it, including with:
- our group companies, Kayhil Freight and Omega Couriers, and our agents and partners where they handle part of a shipment;
- service providers who support our operations, such as IT, hosting, messaging (including Meta / WhatsApp), and tracking system providers;
- customs, revenue and other authorities for cross-border shipments; and
- law enforcement, courts or regulators where we are legally obliged to.
Anyone we share information with must keep it confidential and protect it.
5. Cross-border transfers
Because we deliver across Southern Africa and use service providers that may store data outside South Africa, your information may be transferred to other countries. We only do so where the recipient is subject to laws or binding agreements that provide an adequate level of protection, or as otherwise permitted by POPIA.
6. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires (for example, tax and accounting records). WhatsApp message history is kept for as long as needed to resolve the related shipment or query. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
7. How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including access controls and secure systems. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe and will notify you and the Information Regulator if required by law.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask whether we hold your personal information and request a copy of it;
- ask us to correct or update it;
- ask us to delete it (see our Data Deletion Instructions);
- object to processing or withdraw consent, including opting out of WhatsApp messages; and
